1981.

There are a number of computers that have received the epithet "the first portable computer". Osborne 1 is one of them.

It has two 5.1/4" disk drives. One on each side of the truly minimal screen. The keyboard acts as a lid when it folded up, and it is fitted with a hefty handle. And it was needed. Despite the lack of batteries, it weighs more than a bucket full of water. You do not lag around - that is what you had to do - on almost twelve kilograms.

The small screen, about what a digital camera or a mobile phone has today, could not show the entire line of text. Thus, it was not just scroll up and down, but also sideways to be able to see everything. Despite this and the fact that the critics are not acclaimed, Osborne 1 sold quite OK anyway. Particulary in Norway.
