1984.

Equally good to say it right away. Commodore 16 was a flop. Like Commodore Plus/4 was. Both had roughly the same architecture, but not the same as VIC20 or C64. It was supposed that C16 would "take over" after the VIC20. C16 had the better performance - it's just to compare. But C16 failed to deal with the animated games and other comparable programs, which C64 did. Another big miss was that the peripherals to VIC20 and C16 didn't fit together. Curtain down.
