Atari 1040 STfm had twice as much RAM as the little brother Atari 520 STfm. Because of Atari 1040 STfm also had an excellent sharpness, although only in black and white, it became more popular among people making design and Desk Top Publising, DTP, than those who only wanted to play games. It was said that it was "a poor man's Macintosh".
Another major advantage that Atari 1040 STfm had, was the excellent sound, which also made it popular among music makers. Both in studios and on stage.
